Hong Kong Law Society CPD Requirements

Courses & Seminars Limited has been an accredited provider of the Law Society of Hong Kong since 2001. In accordance with the HK Law Society CPD requirements, after completion of the course, you should make a record of the points awarded to the course you have attended in your own training records, provided that no points at all should be claimed by you for attending a course if you are absent (excluding scheduled breaks) for more than 10 minutes during that course (where the course is less than 3 hours) or for more than 30 minutes during that course (if the course is 3 hours or more)

Law Society of British Columbia Requirements

Courses & Seminars Limited became a pre-approved provider of the Law Society of British Columbia in 2011, and our courses marked with “CPD BC Law” are accredited activities that can satisfy CPD requirements for BC lawyers. These courses are also listed on the BC Law Society’s website where BC lawyers can log on to view upcoming CPD courses. Courses & Seminars Limited will issue an electronic certificate of attendance to attendees who have completed the course. The duration of the course will be stated on the certificate, which will only be issued if the attendee has fully paid the course fee and has signed in and signed out before leaving the course.

New York State CLE Reciprocity

The New York State CLE Board recognizes continuing legal education programs that have been accredited by “Approved Jurisdictions,” which include Hong Kong. Accordingly, attorneys licensed in New York may claim CLE credit for attending our Law Society of Hong Kong-accredited courses, provided that the course meets the substantive requirements of the New York CLE Board. Attendees should retain the certificate of attendance and course materials as supporting documentation when claiming credit with the New York State CLE Board.

California State Bar MCLE Recognition

Under the California Bar’s Approved Jurisdiction policy, Hong Kong is recognized as an approved foreign jurisdiction for MCLE purposes. California attorneys may therefore claim MCLE credit for attending our Law Society of Hong Kong- accredited courses, provided that the course content is relevant to legal practice and the attorney retains proof of attendance and course materials. Courses & Seminars Limited can issue an electronic certificate of attendance showing course title, duration, and provider name upon request.

Other U.S. States

Many other U.S. jurisdictions (including Illinois, Washington, D.C., and Texas) permit attorneys to claim out-of-state or international CLE credits by self-applying for credit using the certificate and agenda issued by the provider, provided that the course meets the jurisdiction’s CLE standards. Attendees should check their local bar’s CLE rules to confirm eligibility and any submission requirements.

Canadian Law Societies (Other Provinces)

While Courses & Seminars Limited is pre-approved by the Law Society of British Columbia, lawyers in other Canadian provinces (such as Ontario, Alberta, and Manitoba) may still claim CPD credit by self-reporting the Hong Kong Law Society-accredited course, as long as the course content is relevant to their professional practice and proper records are maintained. Participants should retain the electronic certificate of attendance as verifiable evidence.

SFC CPT Requirements

The Securities & Futures Commission (“SFC”) has advised that although formal endorsement will not be given for the training we provide, this does not mean that the training programmes we organize do not meet CPT purposes. Registrants should note that your employer, as the corporate licensee of your SFC registration, is responsible for determining whether our courses or any training course satisfy CPT requirements—i.e. that the training you receive is of appropriate standard and relevance to maintaining and enhancing your technical knowledge and professional expertise. Courses & Seminars Limited does not warrant that attendance at our courses would automatically be recognized by the SFC as fulfilling your CPT requirements. Documentary evidence supporting CPT activities should be retained for a minimum of three years. Certificates of attendance are available upon request, subject to full attendance and fee payment.

HKEX – Mandatory Directors’ Training

Under the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (“HKEX”) Corporate Governance Code, directors of listed issuers must receive training to ensure they understand their responsibilities and obligations. Our courses addressing governance, regulatory compliance, or director duties may count towards directors’ ongoing training obligations. Attendees should retain certificates of attendance as supporting documentation for HKEX compliance.

Insurance Intermediaries – Insurance Authority CPD

The Hong Kong Insurance Authority (“IA”) requires licensed insurance intermediaries to complete 15 CPD hours per assessment period, including 3 hours on ethics or regulations. Courses offered by Courses & Seminars Limited that cover regulatory, compliance, or legal topics may be considered suitable CPD activities for IA purposes. Participants should retain their certificate of attendance for recordkeeping in accordance with IA’s CPD Guidelines.

Accountants – HKICPA CPD

Members of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“HKICPA”) must complete 120 hours of CPD over a rolling three-year period, with at least 60 hours verifiable and a minimum of 20 hours per year. Courses covering legal, compliance, or governance topics relevant to an accountant’s professional duties may be counted as verifiable CPD. Members should maintain the certificate of attendance and course materials as supporting evidence.

CFA Continuing Education (“CE”) Requirements

The CFA Institute has advised that course providers are not required to apply to CFA for accreditation. However, CE activities must be educational in nature and increase the knowledge of an investment professional. Members should log their CE activities in the CFA Institute’s Continuing Education tracking system, supported by their certificate of attendance and course materials.

Certificates of Attendance

Effective June 2019, Courses & Seminars Limited issues electronic certificates of attendance within three business days of the course by email. Certificates are issued only upon full payment of the course fee and confirmation that the attendee has signed in and signed out before leaving the course.
