Mr. Somer is a principal of Complyport Hong Kong, which provides regulatory and compliance advisory services to the Asian offices of multi-jurisdiction fund managers and institutional securities brokers. Complyport is a leading compliance and regulatory consultancy providing practical compliance solutions for UK and Hong Kong-based fund managers and securities brokerage firms. Established in 2001, Complyport is one of the UK’s largest consulting businesses solely dedicated to compliance, combining former regulators, industry practitioners and legally qualified individuals. Complyport is based in London and has approximately 19 employees.

Mr. Somer has 18 years’ experience in regulatory and compliance law in Asia and the US. Previously, he served as General Counsel and Head of Compliance for a Hong Kong asset manager, and previously was General Counsel and Vice President of the Investment Banking Department of Credit Agricole Indosuez and the Equity Capital Markets Department of Indosuez W.I. Carr, Hong Kong.

Mr. Somer attended Vanderbilt University in the U.S., holds a JD and MBA, and is a qualified lawyer. He is a current member of the Alternative Investment Management Association (“AIMA”) Hong Kong Regulatory Committee, and guest lecturer for the course “Compliance in the Hong Kong Securities Industry” given at the Hong Kong University School of Law.
