About the event

Starting with President Trump’s first term, Sanction impositions were yet another reminder to wealthy Hong Kong families and their Single Family Offices (“SFOs”) of the relevance of geopolitics to all aspects of their personal and business wealth. The 2020 HK Autonomy act and follow on actions made SFOs aware of the consequences. Concerns about associated actions affecting payment systems and bank obligations have made SFOs needing to reexamine not only situs of assets but also jurisdiction exposure across aspects like citizenship and residency of family companies, businesses, directors and other associates. Tax and reporting exposure are not just the only areas of concern. Related concerns also abound: Tariffs, technology restrictions, reporting obligations, national security, data privacy, AI, etc.

Highlights of the course include:

  • Sanctions and trade controls

o   Introduction to global sanctions

o   China and Hong Kong-related US sanctions
