Offshore structures, especially companies and trusts, are increasingly being used as holding vehicles for different purposes, e.g. property holding, securitisation and investment funds. Traditionally these structures have been employed mainly for tax and confidentiality reasons. However with recent developments, is the set up and maintenance of these structures still as simple and non- transparent?

Day One of this conference shall explore various popular offshore jurisdictions and recent developments in their laws governing operation of companies and trusts. Topical issues including the new BVI Business Companies Act and its transitional issues as well as operation of the Cayman Star Trust shall be examined.

Day Two of this conference shall focus on offshore funds and explore the structural and regulatory issues particular for various types of funds in different offshore jurisdictions. Tax and accounting issues relating to offshore funds will also be explored; as well as recent US regulatory requirements for non US fund managers.
