More than 1,000 companies are currently listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and many more, both in the PRC or in other jurisdictions, are expected to seek a listing in Hong Kong.  To maintain investors' confidence in the Hong Kong securities markets and to uphold the image of Hong Kong as a developed and reliable financial centre, corporate governance has become an issue of increasing importance for listed companies in Hong Kong .  This is especially so due to the globalized nature of capital markets and convergence of international regulatory and accounting standards.  As many Hong Kong listed companies are either family-owned or government / state-controlled businesses, it is essential that the decision making of these companies would take into consideration both the interests of the majority and minority shareholders.

As an inaugural event, the Listed Companies Conference will focus on corporate governance issues amongst listed companies, and how they affect corporate performance and market valuations. The conference will also cover other topics, such as corporate governance issues for family / government-controlled businesses and state-owned enterprises, risk management, corporate social responsibility as well as expectations from investors.  The objectives are to bring about a better understanding of applicable rules and regulations, showcase the latest market trends and help participants achieve a practicable yet high level of compliance and commitment to corporate governance.
